Road tests of the Opel Mokka crossover continue. The test phase beyond the Arctic Circle is over – now prototypes are rolling around the testing center in Rodgau. And in parallel with this, Opel experts share new details about the upcoming new product. It became known that Mokka after a generational change will lose as much as 120 kg! This is explained by the use of the CMP modular platform, the use of lightweight materials and the transition to three-cylinder engines instead of the previous four-cylinder ones. And the Germans say a 30 percent increase in the rigidity of the steel body structure.
The second-generation Opel Mokka will borrow design decisions from the 2018 Opel GT X Experimental concept. LED headlights and lanterns of a characteristic shape, a radiator grill and a window sill slightly raised at the rear pillars will remind of it.
Without giving specific numbers, the Germans also said that the wheelbase of the new Mocha will be about the same as its predecessor. In the latter, the distance between the axes reaches 2555 mm. Although here is the new Peugeot 2008, with which Mokka will share the platform and units, this figure is greater – 2650 mm. The compact Opel is expected to receive familiar gasoline and diesel engines from 100 to 155 hp. (205-300 N • m). A fully electric version with 136 hp electric motor will also be on sale. (260 N • m), with a battery capacity of 50 kW • h and a range of 310 km according to the WLTP standard.
The debut is scheduled for the second half of this year, and at the start of sales in the European market – at the beginning of 2021. Most likely, Mokka will reach us. At prices in Europe, you can focus on Peugeot 2008, which in Germany costs from 21,500 to 41,950 euros (from 1.7 to 3.4 million rubles).
